The Spateldrongo ( Dicrurus remifer ) is a species of bird from the family of Drongos .
It occurs on the Indian subcontinent and in Southeast Asia : in Bhutan , China , India , Indonesia , Java , Cambodia, Laos , Malaysia , Myanmar , Thailand and Vietnam .
The distribution area includes moist evergreen deciduous forest and deciduous tropical forest up to 2000 m altitude, preferably to be found in shady clearings or aisles.

The spatula drongo is 25 to 28 cm tall, and the outer tail feathers are around 30 to 40 cm long. The male weighs 39 to 49 g, the female 35 to 44 g. It is very similar to the flag rongo with a plume on the forehead, but is smaller overall, has no hood, and the tail without the elongated outer feathers ends in a rectangular shape. The flags are smaller and flatter.

The male's call is described as extremely variable with the largest repertoire of any drongo. Excellent voice imitator.
Geographic variation
The following subspecies are recognized:
- D. r. tectirostris ( Hodgson , 1836) - Himalayan foothills from northern India ( Uttarakhand ) to Arunachal Pradesh , Assam , Nagaland , Manipur and Mizoram , Bangladesh , southern China, Myanmar, northern Thailand, northern Laos and Vietnam
- D. r. peracensis ( ECS Baker , 1918) - South Myanmar ( Tenasserim ), Thailand south to Malaysia, south from Laos and Vietnam
- D. r. lefoli ( Delacour & Jabouille , 1928) - Cambodia ( Chuor Phnom Krâvanh and Dâmrei Mountains )
- D. r. remifer ( Temminck , 1823), nominate form - Sumatra ( Barisan Mountains and Batak Highlands) and West Java
Way of life
The diet consists mainly of insects such as beetles , butterflies , winged termites .
The breeding season is between April and June, the small, flat, bowl-shaped nest is built by both sexes.
Hazardous situation
The stock is not considered to be at risk ( least concern ).
