Spechhorn

The Spechhorn (Italian: Pizzo di Antigine , 3189  m above sea level ) is a mountain in the Weissmies group in the Valais Alps and is located southeast of the Mattmarksee . The summit is located in the main Alpine ridge , which marks the border between Switzerland and Italy and bends from south to east at the Spechhorn. The mountain is hardly glaciated, only the small Ofental Glacier lies in the northeast of the summit .

The summit is sending three climbs: the south ridge connects the Spechhorn with the Joderhorn ( 3035  m ), the deepest incision is used in the past by smugglers Mondellipass ( 2832  m ), were found on the two coins from the late Roman era. The east ridge leads to the Ofentalhorn ( 3059  m ), less than a kilometer away . The Spähnhörner ( 3071  m and 3146  m ) and the lower summit of the Spechhorn, only a few meters lower, are located in the northwest ridge that descends to the Galmenhorn ( 2846  m ) .

Climbs

The ascent over all three ridges is possible and not difficult , but in places there are climbing difficulties of the second degree to be mastered. The northwest ridge over the Spähnhörner can be reached from the Höhenweg from the Ofental in the direction of the Monte Moro Pass by crossing the northern flank of the Galmenhorn. The south ridge can be reached from the marked path towards the Modellipass . The western flank, which can be reached from the Staffelbach valley, serves as the ski route.
