Hieronymus Falkeisen , also Hieronymus Falkeisen-Hauser (born May 29, 1758 in Arisdorf , † September 15, 1838 in Basel , resident in Basel) was a Swiss Reformed theologian .

Life

Hieronymus Falkeisen was born in Arisdorf on May 29, 1758 as the son of pastor Theodor Falkeisen and Esther, born Bernoulli. Falkeisen, who studied theology in Basel from 1772 , became “Sancti Ministerii Candidatus” in 1780 , equivalent to a candidate for a pastorate.

Hieronymus Falkeisen performed his first pastoral service as an orphanage pastor in Basel from 1784. In 1791 he became parish assistant (2nd pastor) in the Theodorskirche in Kleinbasel and two years later pastor of the large inner-city parish of St. Leonhard . In 1816, at the age of 58, Falkeisen was promoted to pastor and antistes at the cathedral .

Hieronymus Falkeisen, who was married to Maria Salome, born Hauser, died on September 15, 1838, a few months after he had turned 80 in Basel.

Act

Hieronymus Falkeisen founded a society for the education of young preachers in 1785. In 1811 he presided over the Bible Society . As a conservative , he was a pietist opponent of modern theology. In addition, Falkeisen, offspring of a family known for their collecting activities and their interest in history, was an important collector of church historical documents, including views of Emanuel Büchel , maps of Switzerland, portraits , books, funeral speeches , coins and seals .
