Spencer are a Swiss indie rock band with influences from Shoegaze , Britpop , Dream Pop and New Wave .
history
In the mid-1980s, drummer JP Free and guitarist Leo Niessner met in a Dixieland combo. Both were from psychobilly and garage punk bands like The Cramps , The Meteors or Demented Are Go! as the, from their point of view, good Dixieland sound. Shortly thereafter, they formed the psychobilly band Blown Mad together . In addition to The Monsters, The Peacocks and the Hillbilly Headhunters , Blown Mad were among the best-known Swiss representatives of the genre in the 1990s. Numerous line-up changes hit the band.
In 2002 JP Free and Leo Niessner founded the indie band Spencer . Four years later, the debut album This World was released . With the second album Timewarp in 2009, which was produced by Adrian Stern , Spencer managed to reach a larger Swiss audience for the first time. The two single releases Timewarp and Don't Wanna Spend made it into the rotations of Radio Argovia and SRF3, among others .
In 2011, ex-Redeem bassist Pashi joined Spencer, which resulted in a musical reorientation. In addition to the tried and tested New Wave sounds, influences from Shoegaze and Dream Pop were increasingly added.
On August 23, 2013, the third Spencer album Echoes of Loneliness was released on the band's own label Ambulance Recordings.

Spencer's style is reminiscent of bands like Editors , Arctic Monkeys , Foo Fighters and Oasis .

Spencer are known to be a passionate live band. Above all, singer Leo Niessner is always looking for contact with the audience. For example, he often plays his guitar solos in the midst of the audience.
