Spencer J. Cox (born July 11, 1975 in Fairview , Sanpete County , Utah ) is an American politician . He has been the Lieutenant Governor of the state of Utah since 2013 .

Career

Spencer Cox graduated from North Sanpete High School , Snow College, and Utah State University . After studying law at Washington and Lee University in Lexington ( Virginia ) and being admitted to the bar, he began working in this profession. He also worked in the telecommunications industry. There he became Vice President of CentraCom .

Politically, Cox joined the Republican Party . He was a councilor and mayor of Fairview and a member of the Sanpete County council. Between January and October 2013, he was an MP in the Utah House of Representatives . After Lieutenant Governor Greg Bell resigned , he was appointed by Governor Gary R. Herbert to succeed him. He has held this office since October 16, 2013. He is Deputy Governor. In addition, he actually exercises the office of Secretary of State existing in most other states , which does not exist in Utah and whose functions are incumbent on the lieutenant governor. In the elections on November 8, 2016, both Herbert and Cox were confirmed in their respective offices.
