features

Compared to other cardinalfish, the Sphaeramiini are relatively high-backed. They are covered with comb scales. Only one to three scales in front of the dorsal fin can also be round scales. The caudal fin is forked, spade-shaped or rounded with 15 branched fin rays. The hypuralia are free or 1 + 2 and 3 + 4 have grown together. The upper, lower jaw and palate are covered with slender teeth that stand in one or more rows. The supramaxillary, a bone of the upper jaw, is absent. The ridge of the preoperculum is smooth, the edges sawn. The stomach and intestines are pale or black with a pale peritoneum .

The third or fourth spine of the dorsal fin is the longest, the eighth is reduced and barely visible or lies under the skin. It is supported by a free, sixth fin carrier . The first segmented fin ray in the second dorsal fin is branched, the first anal fin ray is segmented and branched.
