The Splettstoesser Pass is a 2200 m high and snow-covered mountain pass in the Admiralty Mountains of the East Antarctic Victoria Land . It runs in an east-west orientation through the Findlay Range in the area northwest of the Gadsden Peaks .
A team from the New Zealand Antarctic Research Program , led by geologist Robert H. Findlay, first walked this pass between 1981 and 1982 on the way from the field firn field to the Atkinson Glacier . It is named after the American geologist John Frederick Splettstoesser (1933–2016) from the University of Minnesota , from 1981 to 1982 project coordinator in the United States Antarctic Research Program for the international exploration of northern Victoria Land.
