Sport Bild is a German sports magazine mainly devoted to football . With 179,039 copies sold per week according to IVW 2/2020, it is the sports magazine with the highest circulation in Europe. It is produced by Axel Springer Sport Verlag GmbH, a subsidiary of Axel Springer SE , and has been published every Wednesday since 1988. The headquarters of the editorial team was relocated from Hamburg to Berlin in February 2019 . In addition to Hamburg, there are editorial offices in Essen , Frankfurt am Main , Leipzig and Munich .

history

The first issue of Sport Bild magazine appeared on February 24, 1988 under editor-in-chief Werner Köster, who was also sports director at Bild-Zeitung at the time. Was developed sports image by a project group that the former editor in chief of Auto Bild ran, Werner Rudi. The development team also included Ulfert Schröder († November 1988) and Peter Glauche.

The introductory price in 1988 was 30 pfennigs, the current price is 2.10 euros.

Sport Bild has been working regularly with guest columnists since March 2011: "Every week prominent experts report on important sports topics and provide exciting insider knowledge for readers." Columns by Oliver Kahn and Katarina Witt made the start.

In July 2010 Sport Bild presented the booklet-in-booklet “Cool Sport” for the first time, which is aimed at children and young people between 10 and 17 years of age. The special provides reports, portraits and tips on all aspects of football and trendy sports.

Sport Bild has lost a lot of circulation in recent years . The number of copies sold has fallen by 66.4 percent since 1998. It is currently 179,039 copies. This corresponds to a decrease of 353,106 units. The share of subscriptions in the circulation sold is 33.8 percent.

Sport Bild Award

The magazine has been honoring outstanding achievements and special ideas in the field of sports with the “Sport Bild Award” since 2003. The editorial team gives awards in four categories, and readers' polls via the Internet, telephone and SMS determine a further four winners. The editorial team visits the winners and presents the coveted awards.
