Stéphane Bijoux (born October 8, 1970 in Saint-Denis , La Réunion ) is a French journalist and politician ( LREM ). Since the 2019 European elections he has been a member of the European Parliament as part of the Renew Europe group .

Life

Stéphane Bijoux was born on October 8, 1970 in Saint-Denis , the capital of the French island of Reunion . After studying at the Collège Saint-Michel and Lycée Leconte-de-Lisle on the island, Bijoux studied journalism and ethnology at the University of Bordeaux-Montaigne from 1988 to 1991 .

Bijoux then worked in various journalistic positions, mainly at France Télévisions . Among other things, he was head of information at RFO and editor-in-chief at RFO Réunion . In 2009 he became the “Information Diversity” coordinator at France Télévisions, and he also worked as a newscaster for Soir 3 ( France 3 ). In 2014 he became editor-in-chief of France Ô and Outre-mer 1ère .

In 2019, Bijoux ran for 10th place on the list for the newly founded party La République En Marche! of French President Emmanuel Macron in the European elections. The party won 23 of the 79 French seats, so Bijoux moved in straight away. He joined, like his party colleagues, the renamed liberal group Renew Europe . Bijoux is a member of the regional development committee for the group . He is also a deputy member of the Development Committee and the Employment and Social Affairs Committee .
