The Roman Catholic Church of St-Gervais-St-Protais in Saint-Gervais , a French commune in the Val-d'Oise department in the Île-de-France region , was built from the 12th century. The building has been on the list of architectural monuments in France as Monument historique since 1909 .

history

The church, consecrated to the martyrs Gervasius and Protasius , was built in the 12th century on the site of a previous building. This chapel was built in 841 for the relics of St. Gervasius was erected.

Only the tower remains of the medieval church, the nave and the transept were renewed after the destruction during the Hundred Years War in the 16th century. This construction work was financed by Nicolas de Neufville , Seigneur de Villeroy.

Noteworthy is the Renaissance portal, begun in 1549 by Robert Grappin and completed by his son Jean. The church has arched windows and the facade is structured by buttresses . The tower above the crossing is covered by a pyramid roof. Small pyramids are also set up at the four corners of the roof.

  • Stone sculpture of St. Ludwig from the 16th century
  • 19th century plaster sculpture of the prophet Simeon
  • In the sacristy there is wall paneling that was originally made around 1800 for the choir .
