The Catholic Church Saint-Jacques-Saint-Philippe in Lentilles , a commune in the Aube department in the French region of Grand Est , was built in the 16th century and is considered one of the most beautiful timber-framed churches of the Pays du Der. Leaded glass windows from the 16th century have been preserved in the church . In 1933, the church dedicated to the Apostles James the Elder and Philip was added to the list of architectural monuments in France as Monument historique .

history

The church was built after 1512. How dendrochronological studies show that trees whose wood was used to build the church were, like this year. The western yoke of the nave and the vestibule were added at a later date. In 1973, a wooden ceiling was discovered under a false vault made of plaster and exposed again.

The nave has three aisles and is divided into five bays . The central nave opens into a one-bay, five-sided closed choir . The polygonal roof turret, covered with wooden shingles, sits above the fifth yoke . The west facade and the vestibule are also clad with wooden shingles.

Leaded glass window

The church patrons James and Philip are depicted on the central lead glass windows in the choir . In the upper oculi are disks with fragments from the 15th / 16th centuries. Century used. A couple of donors can be seen on one window, another window depicts St. Barbara with her attribute , the tower. The window with the scene of the Lamentation of Jesus is dated to 1505. One of the windows shows the apostle Peter , another window shows a bishop, perhaps St. Dionysius of Paris , who is holding his severed head in his hands.

  • The gable of the vestibule is crowned by a stone figure of the Apostle James the Elder from the 16th century.
  • The colored crucifix in the choir also dates from the 16th century.
