The Roman Catholic Church of St-Maclou in Sainneville , a French commune in the Seine-Maritime department in the Normandy region , was built in the 12th century. The Romanesque church, surrounded by a cemetery, has been a protected architectural monument ( Monument historique ) since 1926 .

history

The church, consecrated to St. Machutus , still has the three- bay central nave and most of the transept from the Romanesque era . The rest of the building was in the 16./17. Century renewed. From the west facade only the portal has survived, to which a portal porch has recently been presented. The portal is bordered by a braided band that runs over the pillars down to the ground. In the flat-roofed nave, stepped round arches rest on pillars with a cross-shaped cross-section. High, unadorned windows open above a round bar . The capitals are decorated with foliage, birds, mythical animals or masks. Only the southern transept is completely preserved from the time it was built; it has a portal under a double-stepped round arch, which is decorated with a zigzag bar , panes and pearl friezes .
