St-Marcel (Saint-Marcel-lès-Sauzet)
The Catholic Church of Saint-Marcel in Saint-Marcel-lès-Sauzet , a French parish in the Drôme department in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region , was built in the second half of the 12th century in late Romanesque - early Gothic styles. The church has been recognized as a monument historique since 1846 .
architecture
The church belonged to a priory of Cluny Abbey that was dissolved during the French Revolution . A wing of the former cloister is still preserved on the south side .
At the three-aisled nave , a closing transept on. In the east the church ends with a choir , which consists of a central apse and two flanking apses. All components including the facade have large arched windows . The nave is covered by pointed barrels that rest on set pillars . The columns have floral capitals . An octagonal dome on trumpets rises above the crossing . The three apses are connected by arches, they are covered by domes .
