The Catholic parish church of Saint-Martin in Breux-Jouy , a parish in the Essonne department in the French region of Île-de-France , was built in the 12th and 13th centuries and changed in the 14th century. The church is dedicated to St. Consecrated to Martin of Tours .

Exterior construction

On the south side of the church rises the bell tower, which still has its bell from 1779. It features a gable roof covered and at its corners by massive buttresses strengthened. The upper floor is broken up by high, coupled sound arcades . The simple portal is built into an open sign on the west facade.

inner space

The main nave , the south aisle and the recently closed choir are still from the original Romanesque building . The main nave has a flat roof, the choir and the side aisle have groin vaults . The console decorated with a grimace is dated to the 12th century. The capitals are also preserved from the Romanesque church.

Baptismal font

The church has several pieces of equipment that are classified as a monument historique .

  • The main altar was built in the 17th century. The Descent from the Cross is shown on the altarpiece by Paul Delaroche .
  • The choir screen is also dated to the 17th century.
  • The pulpit comes as the reading lectern of 1680/83.
  • The baptismal font was placed in front of the choir and is now used as an altar.
