St-Pierre Church

The church of St-Pierre in Ambarès-et-Lagrave , a French town in the Gironde department in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region , was originally built in the 11th century. In 2002 the church on Rue Victor Hugo was added to the list of architectural monuments in France as Monument historique .

history

Romanesque portal

The original church had only one nave . The choir head and western end of the church were added in the 12th century. The church was fortified during the Hundred Years War .

Side aisles were added to the church in the 18th century. Although the building fell into disrepair at the beginning of the 19th century and was subsequently modified several times, the Romanesque portal from the 12th century has been preserved.

The lead glass windows were installed from the 1860s.

Furnishing

Of the church furnishings , the pulpit , the Easter candlestick and the baptismal font from the 18th century are worth mentioning.
