In the Middle Ages, the village of Hammrich moved further north to the Geest due to the increasing moisture in the soil . The first pastor can be traced back to 1436. With the Reformation , the parish first switched to the Calvinist Reformed, then to the Lutheran creed.

Church building

Parallel wall bell cage with slightly pointed arches

Today's church with large arched windows was built in 1751, mainly from the large bricks of the medieval predecessor building, probably a cruciform church. The position of the organ gallery behind the altar is unusual. The free-standing bell cage of the parallel wall type has been preserved from the 13th century . A special feature of the Nortmoorer belfry are the early Gothic pointed arches over the sound openings. Other belfry of this type have round arches in these places, even if they were erected in the Gothic period.

Furnishing

One of the two bells dates back to the time when the brick belfry was built. The second bell was cast by Bertolt Klingke (Klinghe) in 1509.

Choir stalls.

The interior is closed off by a flat beamed ceiling. In front of the east wall is the organ gallery, which forms a unit with the altar. The winged altar was created in 1662 and reflects Flemish influences. In the middle of the triptych , the Lord's Supper is depicted in a simple manner, on the left the birth announcement, on the right the Adoration of the Magi . On the altar there are two bronze candlesticks from the Baroque era. A trapezoidal coffin lid with a club cross dates back to the High Middle Ages. The pulpit by Tönnies Mahler dates from 1652 and is provided with corner columns and carved depictions of the evangelists in the round arches. The simple font has an octagonal shape. One of the three brass chandeliers bears the year 1665.

The remains of the late Gothic choir stalls with carvings are said to come from the Barthe Monastery (around 1500), which is placed in the front left. The church stalls with traljen lattice and spherical wooden knobs come from the year the church was built.

organ

Müller organ from 1775, behind the altar

The organ was created by Hinrich Just Müller from 1773 to 1775 with eight registers on a manual and attached pedal and its conception is very similar to his work in Holtrop . The parapet instrument is based on a principal 4 ' due to the low ceiling and has a nine-axis prospect . To the side, surrounded by the veil , are three mute wooden pipe mock-ups covered with tin foil. The two reed voices had to give way to labial pipes in 1919/20 in accordance with contemporary tastes ( P. Furtwängler & Hammer ). In 1951/52 the bellows system was replaced by Alfred Führer in a different form. The valuable instrument has been a listed building since 1952. The organ building company Führer restored the instrument from 1980 to 1982 and reconstructed the original arrangement . In 1990 the original color scheme was restored as part of the church renovation. The organ has the following disposition:

Manual C – c 3
