history

The basic substance of today's church building probably comes from the 13th or 14th century. There is no reliable information about a previous building of the St. George's Church. The West Tower of Tudor was built in the 17th century. In 1844 the interior was converted.

In 2012 the parishes of St. George's Church and the Church of Natendorf were merged to form the “Evangelical Lutheran parish of Barum-Natendorf in Barum”. It belongs to the Uelzen parish of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Hanover .

Architecture and equipment

The St. George's Church is divided into a west tower, a Gothic nave and an entrance porch on the southern long side of the nave. The freestanding west tower was built in Tudor whose first Gefachlage up to the entrance area to the west of St. Andrews crosses is stripped. Arched compartments are located directly below the tower roof. The top of the tower, which is covered with brownish tiles, shows a fish . The Gothic nave of the hall church has a foundation made of field stones and has a rectangular floor plan with a flat eastern end of the choir . The facade of the end of the choir and the west wall are made in the area of the gable in exposed framework and underneath in bricks . The end of the choir and the south side have round-arched windows, the north side have pointed windows. A small neo-Gothic entrance porch made of bricks connects to the south side of the long side .

The interior is simply designed. The walls are beige, the pews in white tones. The pews are arranged in two rows with a central aisle. The organ of the church is on the gallery at the western end of the nave. The interior is vaulted by a wooden barrel.

The early Baroque altarpiece was made from Weser sandstone and donated in 1656 by the Meding family who owned the estate . The church's Furtwängler organ dates from 1869 and was restored in 1994. The church tower is equipped with two bronze bells from the 13th century.
