St. Mary's Church (Kyritz)
The St. Marien Church is a Protestant church building in Kyritz .
history
The oldest previous building was a small Romanesque church from the 12th century. It was dedicated to St. Nicholas , the patron saint of seafarers and merchants. Around the year 1400 this first church was converted into a Gothic hall church with a tower and choir. The Reformation was introduced in 1559 .
In 1622 the church and the tower burned down. In the following decades the former Franciscan church served as a parish church. It was not until 1709 that the reconstruction of the Marienkirche began, with the Gothic shape remaining the model (" post-Gothic "). The church was consecrated in 1714.
In 1820 there was a tower fire. In the years 1849 and 1850 a new two - tower façade with a dazzling gable was built in the neo-Gothic style, designed by the Oberhof building officer Friedrich August Stüler , a student of Schinkel . Three new bells were hung in the gable, which were hung inside the towers in 1888. In 1904 and 1905 the interior was renovated and redesigned with emphasis on the Gothic character of the room. In 2000 the renovation of the church towers and the roof began. The church building is a listed building.
