Eduard Daege
Eduard Wilhelm Daege (born April 10, 1805 in Berlin , † June 6, 1883 in Berlin) was a German painter , director of the Berlin Academy and the National Gallery in Berlin .
Life
Eduard Daege, born on April 10, 1805 in Berlin, studied from 1820 at the Berlin Academy under Johann Gottfried Niedlich and from 1823 in the studio of the court painter Wilhelm Wach . Presumably he was also involved in the painting of Schinkel's playhouse on Gendarmenmarkt in 1821 . Together with Karl Eduard Biermann , he made a trip to Rome and Naples from 1832–1833 .
Since 1835 a member of the Berlin Academy, Daege became a teacher of the drawing and antiquity class in 1838. Appointed professor in 1840, he took part in the murals in the Neues Museum and in the palace chapel of the Berlin City Palace . From 1861 to 1874 he headed the Berlin Academy, which also included the management of the newly founded National Gallery Berlin .
Eduard Daege died in Berlin on June 6, 1883.

- 1847–1855: Wall paintings in the Neues Museum in Berlin (hero images in the north dome hall, allegories of the four cities of Christian antiquity Rome , Jerusalem , Byzantium and Aachen in medallions worn by the cardinal virtues in the south dome hall)
- 1856: Altarpiece of the monastery church, Ribnitz monastery
