St. Agatha is a Roman Catholic chapel in Schaven , a district of Mechernich in the Euskirchen district in North Rhine-Westphalia . It belongs to the Catholic pastoral care area Veytal .

history

The chapel , consecrated to St. Agatha of Catania and Konpatron Sebastian , was first mentioned in 1182 when the Münstereifel monastery acquired half of the investiture rights in Schaven. The oldest surviving part of the Romanesque church is the west tower from the 12th century . The core of the nave also dates from this time, as small, arched windows can be seen in the masonry. During renovation work in the 14th century, the nave received the simple Gothic windows, which were not structured by tracery , but which were created in the manner of a " nun's head ". In the choir, however, there are completely undivided windows. Further renovations took place in the 17th century.

Furnishing

The choir is spanned by a ribbed vault with a star / net-like structure. In the nave, on the other hand, there is a wooden pointed barrel . The other equipment consists of three baroque altars. On the side altars, St. Rochus is depicted on the right and St. Agatha on the left. Another figure is in the high altar structure.
