history

Bleibuir is already listed as an independent parish in the Liber valoris from 1308 . The place itself was mentioned for the first time in the Prümer Urbar from the 9th century, but there is no explicit mention of a church. The Bleibuir parish belonged to the extensive Deanery of Zülpich. Around 1300 the Schleiden family owned the right of patronage over the parish church, and in 1327 Konrad von Scheiden transferred the rights to the Counts of Luxembourg. A document from 1493 mentions the first known pastor of Belibuir, Matthys von Bettingen.

In 1791 the parish was enlarged to include Voißel, Wielspütz, Bescheid and Wallenthal. The places mentioned previously belonged to the parish of Olef. During the French era , the place, which always belonged to the Archdiocese of Cologne , became part of the newly founded Diocese of Aachen . This was only reversed in 1825. In contrast to many other parishes, nothing changed in the composition of the parish area. Until 1964 the places Denrath , Heufahrtshütte and Stollenhütte were part of the parish. These were then re- parried to Strempt .

Building history

When exactly there was a church in Bleibuir is unknown. The origin of the parish church mentioned in 1308 is also unknown. This seemed to have hardly changed over the centuries, but in 1754 the church burned to the ground. The reconstruction, using the remains, took place shortly after the fire. In the middle of the 19th century, the church became too small for the increased population, so in 1868 it was decided to enlarge the old parish church. Shortly thereafter, however, they refrained from doing this, as the building fabric of the old church was so poor that it was decided to demolish it and build a completely new one.

The Cologne diocesan master builder Vincenz Statz was commissioned to plan a new parish church . The building permit was granted in 1872 and construction work began the following year. The foundation stone was laid on November 5th, 1873. Due to a lack of financial resources, the construction of a new bell tower was for the time being dispensed with. The construction management was in the hands of local master builder Schütte, the masonry work was in the hands of Matthias Kolhey from Gransdorf . The bell tower was built in 1898 according to plans by Franz Statz , the son of Vincenz Statz.

The structure was only slightly damaged in the Second World War , but it suffered major damage in an earthquake in 1953. In 1954 the church was renovated under the direction of the Aachen architect Wilhelm Rommé . In 1973/74 the church was repaired again.

Building description

St. Agnes is a three-aisled and five-bay basilica made of rubble stones in neo-Gothic styles . The four-storey bell tower with an eight-sided bent helmet is built in front of the ship. In the east is the one-bay and three-sided closed choir . The interior is spanned by ribbed vaults.

Furnishing

In the church, some noteworthy pieces of equipment from the time it was built have survived. The organ is a work of the organ building workshop Gebrüder Müller from Reifferscheid . The instrument has 18 stops on a mechanical action. The richly carved high altar in the choir and the two side altars in the side aisles date from the same time and are in the neo-Gothic style.
