To the holy moors (hostel)
To the holy Moors is a Roman Catholic chapel in Hostel , a district of Mechernich in the district of Euskirchen in North Rhine-Westphalia . The chapel belongs to the parish of St. Andreas , Glehn .
history
The chapel at the hostel is dedicated to the martyrs of the Thebaic Legion and Hubertus von Liège as a conpatron . The transverse rectangular west tower dates back to the 12th century. The late Gothic choir with ribbed vaults and a 5/8 end was built around 1490. The altar was consecrated on August 23, 1492 by Bishop John of Cyrene . The medieval nave probably went through the width of the tower , it was replaced in 1696 by a larger nave between tower and choir in Gothic-style shapes, with the west tower receiving the slender slate pyramid. Renovation work on the church was awarded the Rheinisches Denkmalpreis in 2006.
Furnishing
The nave has a wooden vault in Gothic form. The interior includes three baroque, also wooden altars with paintings. Those of the side altars from the 18th century, depicting the Holy Family on the left, the Saints Hubertus, Matthew and Arnolfus on the right. The painting on the high altar is from 1872. The church contains a small tablet: Man of Sorrows, oil on walnut, from the 15th century. The Gothic choir is richly painted with frescoes.
