St. Andreas (Großengottern)
The St. Andreas chapel is at the entrance to Großengottern , a district of the Unstrut-Hainich community in the Unstrut-Hainich district in Thuringia .
history
In the first half of the 14th century, the Mülverstedter convent of the Order of the Wilhelmites acquired a plot of land in Großengottern to set up a hospital . The Chapel of St. Andrew probably emerged from this complex around 1347. The chapel, which is a listed building, is no longer used for liturgical purposes today.
description
The hall church , which was built from rubble stones , has a baroque slate roof tower with a curved dome . The windows and the portal are ogival. The lintel in the north has a curtain arch . The interior is covered with a wooden barrel vault. There is a gallery at the front .
