St. Anna (Hangelar)

Sankt Anna is a Roman Catholic parish church in the Sankt Augustinian district of Hangelar ( Rhein-Sieg-Kreis ) in North Rhine-Westphalia . It belongs to the Catholic pastoral care area Sankt Augustin in the Rhein-Sieg district dean of the Archdiocese of Cologne . The current church building was consecrated in 1972.

history

For a long time Hangelar belonged to the parish of St. Peter in Vilich . In 1743 the first chapel was built in the place, which was already dedicated to St. Anne . In 1791 it was demolished and replaced by a larger chapel. Due to the population growth in the 19th century, this too had become too small, so that in 1898 the first parish church of St. Anna in Hangelar was built in neo-Gothic style . The parish of St. Anna became an independent parish in 1911. The church was badly damaged during World War II and then repaired. However, even then it was foreseeable that this church would also become too small with the growing population. In 1970 the construction of today's parish church began, based on plans by the architect Peter Rieck . After its completion in 1972, the old church, which was located directly next to the current one, was torn down.

Furnishing

Some objects from the old parish church have been integrated into the new one, including a late Gothic Anna Selbdritt group from Italy with a neo-Gothic case, a neo-Gothic baptismal font with a brass dome, the central part of the former high altar decorated with figures, relics of St. Anna donated by a citizen and Joachim and a wooden cross in the eastern entrance area with a relief depicting the instruments of Christ's passion. These items of equipment are protected as movable monuments.
