St. Augustine in Neu-Listernohl

The Catholic parish church of St. Augustine is a church building in Neu-Listernohl , a district of Attendorn in the Olpe district ( North Rhine-Westphalia ). It belongs to the Attendorn Pastoral Association in the South Sauerland Dean's Office of the Archdiocese of Paderborn .

History and architecture

The town of Neu-Listernohl was built from 1960 onwards for the town of Listernohl, which was flooded when the Biggetalsperre was built . The old church also sank.

The building, a large hall church made of brick and reinforced concrete , was built from 1963 to 1965 according to plans by Herman Gehrig . The ship is divided into five bays by concrete crossbeams, the side walls of which are offset inward. The ceilings in the nave and in the retracted choir are lightly saddled. The walls are structured by concrete glass strips and an upper band of light, a circular window can be seen on the gable side. The glazing with ornamental patterns was designed by Hermann Gehring. The campanile stands next to it, it is clad with metal sheets.

At the beginning of 2019, the congregation decided to demolish the church and replace it with a new building. The reasons given were that, due to a considerable backlog of renovations, large investment costs would be incurred anyway and the building was too big for the shrinking community. The high altar from the previous building, the organ and the bell tower are to be retained. "DEEN architects" from Münster won the architectural competition for the new building in summer 2019. The parish home, also from the 1960s, was sold to an investor who wanted to convert it into a residential building in early 2013.
