History and architecture

Side entrance

The basilica with a three-aisled transept and a one -and-a- half bay choir in the 5/8 end was built from 1895 to 1896 under the direction of the architect Gerhard Franz Langenberg . After his death, his son-in-law, Johann Adam Rüppel , continued the planning. He changed and refined the construction plans. The contractor was Anton Sunder-Plassmann from Förde (today: Grevenbrück ). The tower faces west. The walls were bricked with Grauwackebruch stone, they are richly structured by color-contrasting stone . The late Romantic Rhenish churches served as a model, enlivened by different window shapes and adorned with blind arcades and arched friezes. In the interior, ribbed vaults rest over bundle pillars ; A radial vault was drawn into the choir . The organ stands on a three-sided, brick, projecting gallery . It was installed in 1904 by the Stockmann organ building company .
