Gunsanad Kina
Datuk Seri Panglima OKK Gunsanad Kina SPDK , (also Gunsanad bin Kina , also Botut ) (* 1840 in Bandukan, Keningau , Sabah ; † January 1, 1930 , ibid) was the chief chief of the Dusun and Murut in the interior of Sabah. As the official representative, he represented the interests of the indigenous population towards the North Borneo Chartered Company .
Life
Gunsanad was born in 1840 as one of the numerous children of his father Kina, a local Dusun chief in the Keningau and Sabah region. Within his family he was called "Botut".
During the Mat Salleh Rebellion , Gunsanad sided with the North Borneo Chartered Company because he saw the continued existence of the indigenous people of Sabah in a common future with the Chinese and the British. Gunsanad therefore acted as a mediator between the parties both during the Mat Salleh rebellion and the all-round rebellion . Because of his integrative skills, he was appointed Orang Kaya-Kaya (OKK) by the government of North Borneo in 1915 .
The cultivation of natural rubber in Bingkor was also introduced by OKK Gunsanad Kina.
Gunsanad also enjoyed great respect outside of the Dusun and Murut. His longstanding association with the Chinese groups of Sabah earned him the name San Tai Wong (King of the Mountain).
After his death, Gunsanad Kina was buried in the cemetery of Kg. Bandukan in the Keningau district.
