St. Boniface Church

The parish church of St. Bonifatius in Düsseldorf-Bilk was originally built as a branch church of St. Martin .

history

Due to the rapid growth of the parish of St. Martin, the local pastor tried to found a branch church in 1924, but died that same year. His successor resumed the plans in 1926, so that the groundbreaking ceremony took place in 1927. As early as 1926, St. Bonifatius owned a male choir. In 1928 the Bonifatiuskirche was raised to the status of the Rector's Church and in 1930 to an independent parish church.

In 1942 the roof structure burned out as a result of bombing. First the services were relocated to Alt St. Martin , and after this church was also hit, to the undamaged sacristy of the Bonifatiuskirche. An extensive repair of the war damage took place in 1950. From 1952 the church was expanded and redesigned according to plans by the architect Paul Schneider-Esleben , whose father Franz Schneider had designed St. Bonifatius.

In 1951 a community mission of Jesuits was formed. There have been female altar servers in the parish of St. Bonifatius since 1974 . In 2008 the cooperation of the Bilk parishes of St. Bonifatius, St. Suitbertus and St. Ludger , which had already formed a parish association since 2003 , as well as St. Blasius in Hamm , St. Dionysius in Volmerswerth and Sorrowful Mother in Flehe in an enlarged pastoral care area, began a year later it was led by a pastor and finally on January 1, 2011, the parish was merged into the enlarged parish of St. Boniface. In the parish of St. Bonifatius, an intensive, voluntary youth work is carried out, in which altar servers and scouts are equally involved.
