The St. Clemens Church in Büsum is an Evangelical Lutheran sacred building from the 15th century. It was consecrated to Saint Clement of Rome , the patron saint of boatmen, fishermen and coastal residents and is therefore also called the Fisherman's Church .

history

The first church fell victim to the great mandrank of 1362 . A second church burned down. In 1442 the residents of Büsum built the church that still exists today on a heaped hill . Excavations showed that other foundation stones were used in the foundation between the choir arch and the space from the pulpit to the west wall. It is therefore assumed that today's church was built on the remains of a previous building. In 1728 the west side of the church was renewed and a staircase was added. During this time, the south wall threatened to collapse, whereupon the community had the Gothic vault torn down and replaced with a flat wooden beam ceiling; In addition, supporting pillars were erected on the north side.

architecture

The church was built from brick in 1442 and provided with white plaster. The structure is not exactly geosted . The choir is contrary to southeast. It is believed that the church was hosted on the day of the sunrise of Saint Clement, November 23rd. A roof turret sits on the simple, red-covered gable roof. The bell tower is free-standing and is located next to the actual church building. There are three bells hanging there: “Gloria” from 1749, “Peace and Joy” from 1954 and “Sacrifice to God!” From 1958.

Interior

In the interior there is a wide range of furnishings from several eras. The bronze baptismal font dates from the 13th century. Johann Adolfi Köster, called Neocorus , who was pastor of the community around 1600, reports in his chronicle of the country of Dithmarschen that it was stolen from the island of Pellworm by the pirate Cord Widderich in the 15th century . A model of the three-master "The mild autumn" hangs from the ceiling. Are below one on the north side gallery several stalls cheeks from the 17th century and the Johannsenloge of 1801, the Nummsenloge from the 19th century and a pulpit from 1671. Behind the stairway to the loft toward Choir falls a wooden sculpture of Mary from the Triumphal Cross Group , which dates from 1495. Opposite her is Johannes. The windows in the choir contain biblical scenes such as "Jesus appears to Mary Magdalene", a donation from a private person in 2000. The southern choir windows are significantly older, for example the window "Christ and the Sea", a foundation of the fishing association from the year 1911 or “The Good Samaritan” by a guest of honor from Lübeck from 1939. Below there are several grave slabs of pastors and preachers who worked in the church. On the opposite side on the south wall to the east of the pulpit there is a cheek of the Osterwurdingmanns from 1672, to the west of it a standing figure of "Saint Margaret" from 1520 and other cheeks from the 16th century. The altar, like the pulpit, dates from 1712, shows the crucifixion scene and is framed by the allegories of Faith and Hope. In the middle of the church there is a triumphal cross with a corpus, which was installed in 1495 by the "Viceinspektor der Peasant Republic Dithmarschen" Andreas Brues.

organ

The organ was built in 1983 by the Danish organ builder Marcussen & Søn and was inaugurated on July 3rd. The slider chest instrument has 26 stops on two manuals and pedal . The playing and stop actions are mechanical.
