Tower and the western = old south transept with a late Gothic portal

St. Cyriakus Vilsen is an Evangelical Lutheran church in Vilsen in the hamlet of Bruchhausen-Vilsen in Lower Saxony in the Diepholz district . It is named after the martyr Cyriak , who is considered a saint in the Catholic and Orthodox Church , and belonged to the Heiligenberg Monastery .

Building history

Around 1200 a hall church with a west tower was built here in Romanesque style field and rubble stones , the end of the choir is unclear. It forms the nave of today's cruciform church . The reveals of the arched windows that are walled up today are made of porta sandstone . The lower part of the tower dates from this time.

North side with Gothic (window and western transept), late Gothic (sandstone portal) and neo-Gothic (new transept and probably the west window) changes

Towards the end of the 13th century, a transept and a new choir were added to the church in the brick Gothic style . The old nave was probably also vaulted on this occasion. and the vaulting of the entire church. The cross vaults of the tower yoke and the nave yokes have strong ribs. The north and south side portals are made of sandstone and have engraved dates, 1534 and 1547 respectively.

In the years 1883–85, the church was expanded to include a second transept according to plans by CW Hase , which adjoins the old one to the east. The roof turret of the tower also comes from this conversion.
