history

The Elizabeth Church was built in 1800 after the old wooden church that stood in the current cemetery was demolished . For the construction of the church other parishes were asked for financial help, which came first from Reifenstein . Heiligenstadt donated a small bell from a chapel in the city and in 1803 the elaborate pulpit from the St. Martin Church . The altar comes from the Reifenstein monastery .

In 1919 the sacristy was built. A year later, the war memorial in front of the church was dedicated . In 1924 electric lights were installed. Two bells were cast at the bell foundry in Apolda in 1924 .

Years of renovation began from 1975 to 1977. During this period, benches, galleries and stairs were dismantled . The pulpit was to be moved to the seminary in Erfurt , which architect Lukassek prevented. Therefore, the lost wooden furniture and the stairs and gallery came back into the nave . Underfloor heating was installed.

The new era

In 1994 the pulpit came to the Protestant art workshop in Erfurt. In 1995 the war memorial was inaugurated.
