The Roman Catholic parish church of St. Emmeram is a medieval former fortified church in the Oberköblitz district of Wernberg-Köblitz in the Schwandorf district of Upper Palatinate . She belongs to the parish community Oberköblitz-Wernberg in the diocese of Regensburg .

History and architecture

The church of St. Emmeram is part of a fortified church from the Middle Ages on a historic ravine, which is connected to the rectory to the north by an arched bridge. The core of the choir tower is medieval and has a four-axis nave extension and a western gallery from the first half of the 18th century. Ceiling paintings in the nave and choir show the glorification of St. Emmeram , are marked in the choir with “JG Merz in Nein” ( Neunburg vorm Wald , 1750) and have been partially impaired by restorations.

Furnishing

The rich baroque furnishings include the altars from around 1740. The high altar shows the martyrdom of St. Emmeram in a painting and wooden figures of St. John Nepomuk and St. Francis Xavier on the side, and a painting of St. Lawrence in the altar extension .

The left side altar shows the Madonna in the altar sheet, flanked by figures of St. Catherine and Barbara ; the excerpt shows the holy Walburga of Eichstätt. The right side altar is provided with a painting of St. Joseph with the baby Jesus, with St. John the Baptist in the excerpt.

The pulpit from around 1700 shows reliefs of the evangelists . The carved stalls were made around 1720. Two sculptures from the first half of the 18th century depict Christ on the scourge column and Saint Sebastian .

The organ front with rich acanthus carvings was created around 1700. The work was made by Orgelbau Kubak in 2003 with 16 stops on two manuals and a pedal .

On the north wall of the choir, a Tumbadeckplatte for the imperial forest master Albrecht Nothaft von Wernberg shows a high relief of the deceased as a knight with full armor, equipped with a bascinet without visor , a ring armor collar over the coat with cut bag sleeves and a deep-seated dupsing , the right hand on Shaft of the lance and the left hand on the sword hilt. This work is recognized as “a major work of sepulchral culture at the beginning of the late Gothic period in the Upper Palatinate, which reveals a processing of stylistic influences from Prague court art”. Numerous tombstones and epitaphs from the 16th to 18th centuries. Century those from Fronau from and to Offenstetten are also kept in the church.
