St. Francis Xaverius Church

The Catholic parish church of St. Franziskus Xavierius in Düsseldorf-Mörsenbroich is a modern church from the interwar period . It is located directly on the Mörsenbroicher egg . The parish of the same name has only existed in its current form since January 1, 2010, when it merged with the parishes of St. Josef and Zum Heiligen Kreuz in the Rath district.

History and architecture

St. Franziskus Xaverius was built in 1928–1929 based on a design by the Düsseldorf architects Hans Tietmann and Karl Haake . The church was built from reinforced concrete and clad with red brick. The structure follows a strictly cubic shape, the nave and choir are not visibly separated from each other. The flat gable triangle protrudes in the middle of the rectangular main facade, under which a round window is let. The five portals in the single-storey porch are combined by a common wall . The church tower stands to the right of the nave clearly in front of the main front, but remains a stone's length behind the front of the porch. The tower, which is also cubic and simple, is accentuated by the narrow, round-arched sound hatches .

The originally two-aisled church was extended by a third nave during the reconstruction after the Second World War at the end of the 1940s .

organ

The organ was built in 1970 by the organ builder Johannes Klais (Bonn), and the solo work was added in the course of cleaning in 2000. The slider chest instrument has 60 registers on four manuals and a pedal . The game actions are mechanical, the stop actions are electric.
