St. Georg (Küntrop)
The Catholic Church of St. Georg is a listed church building on Küntroper Straße in Küntrop , a district of Neuenrade , in the Märkisches Kreis ( North Rhine-Westphalia ).
History and architecture
In the hamlet of Küntrop at that time , there has been evidence of a Georg chapel since 1497.
The quarry stone hall with an entrance arbor and slated pyramid roof was built in 1939 according to plans by Dominikus Böhm as an extension of the chapel , which was reinterpreted as a choir . The chapel with a hipped roof and curved roof turret was built in 1777 using the same materials. The calculated emptiness of the bright, functional interior is enlivened by the brown and white structured roof beams. The lead glass windows with a two-dimensional ornamental effect are labeled D. Böhm, 1940 . The mosaic on the back wall of the choir is the work of an unspecified artist named Schlüter.
Furnishing
- On the west facade is a sandstone crucifixion group, made by Wilhelm Schlueter.
- The high altar . the communion bench, the baptismal font and the pulpit were made from travertine by D. Böhm .
- Some wooden figures from the 17th and 18th centuries enrich the furnishings.
