history

The right of patronage over the parish of Göggingen belonged to the monastery of St. Ulrich and Afra since 1006 . From 1764 it was owned by the bishopric of Augsburg . The right to tithe remained in the hands of the monastery until secularization in 1802.

The church was built in 1713 as a hall with a retracted choir using the basement tower from the 13th and 15th centuries. The upper floor of the north-facing tower was built in 1736 by Joseph Meitinger with an onion hood . It goes back to a crack by Franz Xaver Kleinhans . In the middle of the 18th century, the stucco and the choir arch were created by Matthias Lotter from Augsburg. In 1780 the interior was renovated.

In 1925, the nave was extended to the west according to plans by Michael Kurz . After the sacristy was enlarged and connected to the neighboring parish center in the 1970s, this extension was removed again in the course of the reconstruction of the parish center in 2017-2018, so that the outside of the church closed again in the expansion stage of 1925 see is.

The high altar in neo-baroque forms was created in 1928 by Anton Hörmann from Babenhausen with an altar sheet by Otto Hämmerle from Munich. The modern main characters St. George and St. Michael come from Josef Konrad from Reicholzried. The two side altars are probably made by the local carpenter Joseph Einsle from around 1750 and were restored and partially renewed in 1856. The Nazarene Joseph Korber repainted their altar leaves in 1856/57 . The red marble font was purchased in 1739. The ceiling paintings were whitewashed during the restoration in 1962/63.
