St. Hubertus (Etzweiler)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The St. Hubertus Church was the Roman Catholic parish church of the Etzweiler district of the city of Elsdorf (Rhineland) in the Rhein-Erft district ( North Rhine-Westphalia ).

history

The church of St. Hubertus was built in the years 1787 to 1788 in the Baroque style, as the way to the parish church in Berrendorf had become too difficult for the Etzweiler citizens . The church was donated by Engelbert Panzer. On August 26, 1846, the church was badly damaged by the Tollhausen earthquake. In 1890, the small hall church was expanded to include a transept and a new choir based on plans by the Cologne architect Franz Statz . In February 1945 the wooden spire was shot down by artillery fire. This was replaced by a wooden one after the war, but it had a different shape. In 2000 the church was deedicated because the entire place had to give way because of the Hambach opencast mine . The church was finally demolished on September 24, 2002. As a replacement for the church, a new Hubertus chapel was built in Neu-Etzweiler . Most of the interior of the old church was used again in the new chapel. The old wooden tower top of the old church was also used as the tower top of the new chapel and was dismantled from the old church before 2002.
