Parish Church of St. Lucia Angelsdorf

The Catholic parish church of St. Lucia is a listed church building in Angelsdorf , a district of Elsdorf in the Rhein-Erft district ( North Rhine-Westphalia ).

History and architecture

The previous church was a Romanesque hall church , on the foundation walls of which the south nave stands. The church tax register liber valoris from around 1300 shows that the parish of St. Lucia in Angelsdorf already existed at that time . The first verifiable pastor was Peter von der Mühlen. Why the medieval church was demolished and an asymmetrical building was built in its place in 1535 is not known.

The two-aisled, rib-vaulted brick building was built in 1535. The three-storey west tower , covered with an eight-sided slate pyramid , was built onto the wider and higher south aisle, as was the choir from a yoke with a 5/8 end. The window tracery was renewed in 1865. In the same year the sacristy was built on the north side of the choir. The outside of the building is plastered and framed with red structures on white wall surfaces. The wall and vault paintings from the construction period have been preserved in the choir.

Furnishing

  • In the choir there are figures of saints and a cycle of figurative glass paintings from the late 19th century
  • A wooden sculpture of St. Barbara from the beginning of the 16th century, the version has been renewed
  • A wooden sculpture of St. Josef from the first half of the 18th century, the version has been renewed
