history

The Oberembter church emerges from a chapel whose patronage rights were held by the St. Pantaleon Abbey in Cologne . In 1582 Oberembt became an independent parish, until then it was a branch of Niederembt . The predecessor of today's church was a hall church from the 11th or 12th century. A north aisle was added to it in the late 12th century. In the 13th century the aisle was lengthened and a semicircular apse was added. This Romanesque church was rebuilt in the Gothic style from the end of the 14th century . First, a new choir with a three-sided choir closure and star vault was added to the central nave and a rectangular side choir to the north aisle. In 1490 the three-storey bell tower was built into the western part of the central nave. Around 1524 the central nave and north aisle were rebuilt as a Gothic hall church. Until 1847 the church was a two-aisled complex. In 1847 the church was finally extended to include the southern, neo-Gothic aisle. The windows were installed in 1954.

Furnishing

In the church there is a tendril painting from 1524, which was uncovered in 1954 and appropriately supplemented, a baroque side altar from 1738, a pulpit from the same year, a baptismal font from the late 17th century, a stone, neo-Gothic high altar from 1850 and several historical ones Figures from different centuries. The windows were installed in 1954.
