location

Angelsdorf lies between Elsdorf and the district of Esch . The development of the three places merges into one another. The country road 278 and the district road 38 run through the town . The former federal highway 55 ran south of the town, still known today in Elsdorf as Cologne-Aachener Straße. It is the Roman Via Belgica . The B 55, which was laid because of the lignite mining, bypasses the place north. The place drains via the Escher Fließ , which flows with the Elsdorfer Fließ into the Finkelbach and shortly afterwards into the Erft .

history

The village was first mentioned in a document as "Angellesthorp" in 1079. The largest landowner at that time was the St. Pantaleon monastery from Cologne . In the liber valoris a parish church is mentioned for Angelsdorf as early as the 13th century . The Church of St. Luzia was rebuilt or expanded in 1535 and 1865. Until the beginning of the 19th century, the place was almost as big as Elsdorf.

Before France occupied the areas on the left bank of the Rhine in 1794, Angelsdorf was part of the Bergheim office of the Duchy of Jülich . Under the rule of the French, who completely reorganized the administration in the annexed areas, the village was assigned to the Mairie Esch, canton Bergheim, Arrondissement de Cologne in the Département de la Roer . In 1815 the Rhineland and with it Angelsdorf fell to Prussia, which took over the French administrative division almost unchanged. The Mairie Esch became the mayor's office of Esch in the Bergheim district (Erft) in the Cologne administrative district . This initially belonged to the Province of Jülich-Cleves-Berg , the 1822 with the Grand Duchy of the Lower Rhine to the Rhine province was summarized.

With the introduction of the municipal code for the Rhine Province in 1845, the municipalities administered by the mayor's offices were legally (re-) recognized as regional authorities . From 1848 Angelsdorf was one of the first seven municipalities of the mayor of Esch. Like all rural mayor's offices in the Rhine Province, the mayor's office in Esch was given the name of office in 1927. At the beginning of 1938 the Esch Office was merged with the Heppendorf Office and renamed the Elsdorf Office.

On January 1, 1975, the municipality of Angelsdorf was merged with the other municipalities of the Elsdorf office (excluding the districts of Ahe and Thorr) to form the new municipality of Elsdorf by § 8 of the law for the reorganization of the municipalities and districts of the Cologne reorganization area ( Cologne Act ) was assigned to the newly formed Erftkreis (from 2003 Rhein-Erft-Kreis).

Mayor

Michael Gülden (CDU) is the head of the village for Angelsdorf ( as of 2014 ).

Bürgewald

Angelsdorf is one of the so-called Bürgewald communities that owned the rights to the Bürgewald . According to the legend, this is due to the holy Arnold von Arnoldsweiler , for the legendary "Ride around the Bürgewald". The main town of the Bürgewald communities is Arnoldsweiler . There the Angelsdorfers had to sacrifice a candle to St. Arnold on Whit Tuesday, later on Whit Monday. This wax interest was only canceled in the 19th century.

Central military cemetery

In 1951 , 547 casualties from the Second World War in the vicinity of the Kaninhütte , Birkenstrasse, were reburied in smaller burial grounds and fields in the lignite mining area.

education

In the school center there is a secondary school and a secondary school with a sports hall. The new comprehensive school was opened in the school center in summer 2014 . Classes are currently taking place in the same building as the secondary and secondary schools. The Hauptschule and Realschule in Elsdorf no longer accept any new pupils; Schools are ending in both schools.
