View through the interior

St. Jacob is the Catholic town parish church in Schrobenhausen . It dominates the skyline of Schrobenhausen and is used by the parish of St. Jakob Schrobenhausen in the diocese of Augsburg .

The place Schrobenhausen is on a feeder road to Santiago de Compostela . Presumably for this reason the church is consecrated to St. James the Elder .

building

The late Gothic plastered brick building is a three-aisled, five-bay hall church with an ambulatory choir . The construction lasted from 1450 to around 1480. The Ingolstadt Liebfrauenmünster had an influence on the architecture . The buttresses on the south side are decorated with tracery .

Outwardly, the tower with its octagon and pointed helmet over triangular gables (raised 1617–1624) and the high roof structure from the time the church was built are impressive.

The interior is closed off by a ribbed vault over cantilevered round pillars without belt and divider arches and thus shows a strong unification of the space. The attached St. Francis chapel above the sacristy, formerly the Karner , also has a star vault, but with brick ribs . In 1461 wall paintings with a cycle of Mary were created above the vestry entrance and to the east of it with the 15 characters in front of the Last Judgment and a crucifixion on the south wall.

Visual arts

A group of crucifixions and the Mount of Olives in the interior is worth seeing, created around 1500. Confessionals in the ambulatory and the cheeks of the lay chairs were created by Anton Wiest in 1754. Figures of Saints Peter and Paul from around 1700/10 should also be mentioned. In the vestibule there is a memorial stone for Duke Ludwig the Bearded from 1419. The colored windows were designed by Josef Dering after the Second World War .
