location

History, brief description

Abbot Hermann Vogler (1711–1739) commissioned it, the later abbot Benedikt Stadelhofer (1694–1760), who designed the Maria Steinbach pilgrimage church , is considered to be the architect . The church replaced the former church of the women's monastery. A steep, tiled pent roof lies over the entire nave . The tower is built on the south side of the church building and provided with a copper-covered octagonal French dome . All facade surfaces are plastered white. The area of the building (including the apse ) can be estimated at 50 × 20 meters. The interior surprises those entering with a more urban expansion: a high altar in the choir room with a square floor plan, arranged under an open, wood-carved canopy , contains the miraculous image in the middle , a Pietà from 1579. On both sides there are carved figures of St. Catherine of Siena and St. Dominic , patron of the rosary. Side altars are located under a circumferential gallery . The carved fittings come from the Waldsee sculptor Johann Georg Reusch.

Emblems with inscriptions in Latin and Old German can be seen in the spandrels of many upper windows . The patronage of Saint John the Baptist is celebrated on June 24th.
