St. Johann Baptist in Machtlfing

The St. Johann Baptist Church in Machtlfing , a district of the Andechs community in the Upper Bavarian district of Starnberg , was built between 1838 and 1845 on the site of a previous building. The Catholic parish church at Kirchenweg 8, situated in a dominant position on an Ice Age drumlin , is a protected architectural monument .

description

The tower and nave are uniformly designed with strong corner pilasters and neo-Romanesque blind arches. The choir, closed on three sides, is strongly drawn in.

Furnishing

The church in the style of Friedrich von Gärtner has only a small part of the original furnishings . Extensive changes took place in the late 1950s.

The late Gothic sculpture showing Pope Gregory the Great was made around 1520. The carved crucifix has been preserved from the Baroque period (around 1730).
