St. Johannes in Ungerhausen

The Roman Catholic Chapel of St. Johannes is located southwest of the municipality of Ungerhausen in the Unterallgäu district in Bavaria . The chapel is a listed building.

history

In the place of the chapel there used to be a parish church . This was demolished in 1733. From this previous building, the choir , which was probably built in the 15th century, was converted into a chapel and provided with a closure on the west side. The nave of the parish church was on the south side of the chapel and is known from excavations.

Building description

The plastered chapel is outside the village in an open field. The choir consists of two yokes and ends with a 3/8 end. Inside the chapel is provided with a barrel vault with stitch caps . The chapel is equipped with round arched windows, which used to be pointed arches. There are buttresses on the outside of the choir .

Furnishing

In the west of the chapel there is a wooden gallery from the 18th century. In the chapel there is a painting on wood depicting the death of St. Joseph from the second quarter of the 18th century. The children's bench with carved cheeks, foliage and flowers is made of softwood and was manufactured around the middle of the 18th century.
