St. Johannis is a church in Hirschlach (Hs.-Nr. 29), a district of the town of Merkendorf in the Franconian Lake District , Middle Franconia . It is named after John the Baptist . The community belongs to the dean's office Gunzenhausen in the Ansbach-Würzburg parish of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Bavaria .

history

The foundation stone was laid in 1447. A document around 1400 suggests that there was a castle chapel for the Lords of Hirschlach . The choir vault dates from 1447 and the nave was built in 1730. In 1545, Hirschlach accepted the Protestant faith and changed from the Catholic Ornbau to the Evangelical Merkendorf. The parish of Hirschlach has been part of the Gunzenhausen deanery since 1556 .

Interior

After the Reformation , the three altars at that time became a main altar. During this time a sermon chair and an organ were installed. With the renovation, which took place in 1889, the church received a pulpit, gallery and altarpiece in neo -Gothic style and benches instead of chairs. In 1825 the wooden ceiling was replaced by a stucco ceiling . A wooden coffered ceiling has now been installed. The windows are lead glazed. The altar cross is framed by two carved angels. The baptismal font is a find from the former castle chapel of the Lords of Hirschlach from the Romanesque period . Today's base is a replica of the original that was no longer found. The four bells date from the 15th century, 1825 and 1976.

Every year on the Sunday after Midsummer , the parish fair is celebrated with a festive service and an evening serenade .
