The neo-Gothic parish church of St. Josef in Hohenlinden is probably the largest village parish church in the Upper Bavarian district of Ebersberg . The sacred building, which is listed under the file number D-1-75-123-3, was built by Hans Schurr between 1901 and 1903.

history

Hohenlinden originally had a branch of the Mittbach parish with the late Gothic church of the Visitation of the Virgin Mary , which until its dissolution in 1828 had further branches in Burgrain, Kronacker, Pyramoos and Wetting. Then the parish seat was moved to Hohenlinden and Mittbach was incorporated into the parish of Pemmering. The previous branch church of the Visitation of the Virgin Mary was elevated to a parish church. Since then the Kronacker and Preisendorf branches have belonged to the parish; Since the Hohenlinden church was the smallest of the three sacred buildings, the Sunday service changed almost regularly between Kronacker, Hohenlinden and Preisendorf. At the beginning of the second half of the 19th century, the idea of enlarging one of the three churches flourished, but since none was suitable and a new building seemed impossible due to lack of money, it was abandoned for the time being. When Pastor Held took up his new position in 1885, he founded a church building association, to which 165 members joined . Contributed 000 marks for a future new building.

When Pastor Max Neumair took over the parish in 1891, the new church was within reach, because Neumair turned out to be a great organizational artist. When in 6 years 10 . 000 marks had been raised by the church building association, construction of the church could begin. Thanks to his eager collecting from house to house in the neighboring parishes (whereby the parish Ebersberg was particularly generous), the church building association fund continued to expand, from which a church building fund had now emerged. In addition, 15 . 000 marks from the pension surpluses approved as the basis, in addition there were 4 . 000 marks voluntary state subsidy added. Pastor Max Neumair also applied for a church building lottery, which had finally been approved, and all Bavarian Raiffeisen associations were sent 10 tickets each for the 65th prize . 000 marks brought in, with the main hit of 25 . 000 Marks was retained in the church building budget through a peculiar arrangement of God. On September 1, 1901, the foundation stone was laid by Dean Haberstock von Isen. Pastor Braun, who succeeded Pastor Neumair, who died on May 24th, 1902, led his major construction project by taking out a mortgage of 25 . 000 marks over. The date of the church consecration by Archbishop Franz Joseph von Stein or one of his auxiliary bishops is not known.

In 1980 the original organ was replaced by a new instrument. The parish church underwent a thorough exterior and interior renovation from spring 2007 to autumn 2010.

architecture

left side altar

The mighty, uniformly neo-Gothic building is 48 meters long, the width is 17 meters outside and 14 meters inside. The nave has an interior height of 17 meters, and the tower, which can be seen from afar, has a total height of 70 meters, with the top with the tower cross measuring 35 meters. The sacred building is structured on the outside by mighty buttresses. Very short chapel-like aisles are attached to the left and right of the six-bay nave of the church, which faces south-west to north-east. The subsequent two-bay choir has a three-eighths closure. The two-story sacristy sits at the northeast corner of the choir. Inside the church has a groin vault decorated with keystones, the keystones show the evangelist symbols. In the vault fields and spandrels there are attractive multi-colored stencil-like ceiling frescoes with varied motifs. The largely preserved glass paintings come from the Mayer'sche Hofkunstanstalt .

Furnishing

The high altar (1912 by Joseph Elsner ), which takes up the entire width and height of the choir, is a high quality winged altar from the neo-Gothic style. The predella shows two paintings depicting Joseph's Dream and The Flight into Egypt . In the middle shrine is a crucifixion group in front of a predominantly gilded background. The high reliefs on the sides depict the birth of Christ and the adoration of the Magi . On the inside of the altar wing, the Holy Family in the temple and the circumcision of Christ can be seen, the outside shows St. John the Evangelist and King David with harp. The parish priest Joseph is accompanied by the saints Korbinian and Benno with the baby Jesus. The relics of the martyrs Benedict, Justus and Jucundina are enclosed in the high altar.

The altars in the side extensions represent shrine altars , of which the left St. Mary's altar is of higher quality in terms of the sculptural decoration. Saints Catherine and Barbara are placed alongside the enthroned Mother of God. The Marien Altar served as an emergency high altar until 1912, the right Brother Konrad Altar was created in 1936 by the cabinet maker Georg Braun from Grafing . A crucifix with Mater Dolorosa is set up in the southwest sign , two panels are attached to the side of the wall, the left one lists the pastors of Hohenlinden, the right one lists the priests born in the parish with the date of the primary ceremony and (in some cases) the date of death.
