St. Joseph (Bonn-Castell)
St. Joseph is a Roman Catholic parish church in the Castell district of Bonn . It is part of the parish of St. Peter.
location
The church is located in the north of Bonn on the corner of Kaiser-Karl-Ring and Graurheindorfer Straße.
history
The brick building was built in 1930/31 according to plans by the architects Aloys Böll and Otto Neuhaus from Cologne. On July 3, 1934, the building was dedicated to St. Joseph of Nazareth . In 1944, however, the church was destroyed by a bombing raid during World War II. The reconstruction was carried out in the 1950s according to the original plans.
In 1972 the galleries on both sides were glazed, and the crypt was redesigned in the 1990s.
architecture
The massive, clinkered building is a single-nave hall church with a high wooden ceiling. A square tower is built in front of the southeast corner. The arched windows are by Wilhelm Rupprecht and contain figurative representations. At the front above the entrance consisting of three round portals there is a large round window created in 1970. The decor of the chancel comes from the artist Sepp Hürten . The fountain on the forecourt of the church also comes from him. The interior of the church is kept simple, the altar raised like a stage.
organ
After the completion of the church, the money for an organ was scarce, so that the organ building company Klais gave their "house church" near the company headquarters in 1931 a transitional organ that was put together from existing organ parts.
In 2013, a generous individual donation made it possible to commission a new organ. On June 27, 2014 the new Klais organ (Opus 2000) was inaugurated. The instrument has 36 registers distributed over three manuals and pedal with mechanical performance and electrical stop action. The organ has a composer system with 10,000 storage spaces that can be expanded using a USB stick. The disposition designed Philipp CA Klais, Reiner Schuhenn as organ expert and former cantor of St. Joseph, Vincent Heitzer.
The organ's disposition is:
