Catholic Church St. Kilian in Duttenberg

The Catholic Church of St. Kilian in Bad Friedrichshall - Duttenberg is a village church built by the Teutonic Order in 1734 in the Baroque style .

history

The Kilian's Church stands on a hill above the Jagsttal west of the former Duttenberg Castle . Its emergence, after the Kreuzkapelle one kilometer to the west as the second church in the town, is probably related to the establishment of the manor around the year 800. The church patron Kilian , the main saint of the diocese of Würzburg , founded in 732 , also points to this age . The church in Duttenberg was the mother church of the branch churches in the surrounding towns of Obergriesheim , Hagenbach , Offenau and Bachenau , which, however, were mostly raised to independent parishes in the Middle Ages, Bachenau only in 1876.

According to the year on the main portal, today's church building was built in the late Baroque style in 1734 by the master builder Georg Philipp Wenger from Neckarsulm under the rule of the then Teutonic Order Commander Johann Christoph von Buseck .

The originally two-story gallery was replaced by a one-story reinforced concrete structure during renovation in 1973. Another renovation is planned for 2008.

Look at the choir

The Kilian's Church is a single-nave plastered building in the late Baroque style . The main portal of the church is on the west gable side, the choir is in the east. The church building is dated to 1734 on the west portal and with an inscription stone on the inside of the west gable wall. The church tower is built onto the northeast corner of the nave, with a small tower chapel in the basement. The sculptural church decoration from the 18th century comes from JA Esterbauer and Kilian Hollbusch .

Altars

High altar, in front of it the modern celebration altar

The high altar in the choir shows a picture of the church patron St. Kilian, which was created by Johann Gihser until 1763 . Stone figures of Peter and Paul are attached to the side walls of the choir . The altarpiece of the Marian altar to the left of the triumphal arch shows the Holy Family in the Temple of Jerusalem, the altarpiece of the right side altar shows the Fourteen Holy Helpers . Both side altars are crowned by the Teutonic order coats of arms , whose inscriptions JCVB - TOR (Johann Christoph von Buseck - Teutsch Ordens Ritter) remind of the builder of the church. The baptismal font in front of the Holy Helper altar has an essay with a historical group of figures depicting a baptismal scene. The baroque altars of the church are complemented by the pulpit in the style of the time attached to the south wall of the nave. The celebration altar in front of the high altar is more recent.

Pietà

Pietà

The Pietà in the tower chapel dates from the Gothic period . The fully plastic, colored linden wood figure has a height of 74 cm and a width of 43 cm. The figure composition is a transitional form between the Vespers with the steeply upright Jesus body around 1350 and those with the Jesus body lying crosswise after 1400; the sculpture is therefore dated to around 1380 due to the shape of the folds, although the broad stance of Mary indicates that it was not made until after 1400 could. Originally the figure was probably placed in the Duttenberg Kreuzkapelle , then came to the sister house of the community and after 1945 only narrowly escaped destruction as firewood. The figure was restored by Eckert in Bad Mergentheim in 1973/74.

organ

The single-storey reinforced concrete gallery, which is drawn into the west of the nave, is a recent installation. There is a modern organ on the gallery.
