history

View of Bachenau

Bachenau was first mentioned in 782 as Bacherheim in the Lorsch Codex . In 1360 the place was a fiefdom of the Sturmfeder von Oppenweiler gentlemen as an imperial estate . In 1362 Bachenau was owned by the Archbishop of Mainz . The lords of Weinsberg , the diocese of Worms and the barons of Gemmingen had other property in the village . In 1484, the Teutonic Order (Kommende Horneck in Gundelsheim) acquired the Electoral Mainz part of the town by exchange, and in 1505 also the remaining property in the town. Under the rule of the Teutonic Order, Bachenau belonged to the Heuchlingen office . During the Thirty Years War in 1620 the whole village burned down. After the mediatization of the monastic estates, Bachenau became an independent municipality of the Upper Office Neckarsulm in the Kingdom of Württemberg in 1806 .

The place was connected to the electricity network in 1912 and a water pipe in 1920. When it was connected to the sewer system, the Feuersee lost its importance and was filled in in 1924. The place is still strongly agricultural today and a place of residence for commuters from the surrounding cities and communities. Due to the lack of village trade, the population cannot get supplies locally. The nearest shop is in Gundelsheim, four kilometers away.

On January 1, 1974, it was incorporated into the city of Gundelsheim.

coat of arms

The coat of arms of Bachenau is divided four times by a black cross on a silver shield and shows a black slanted key in the first quarter. The cross is the Teutonic Order Cross and indicates that the place belongs to the Teutonic Order. The key of Peter is the symbol of the diocese of Worms, which was the church patronage in the village. The coat of arms in its present form was proposed by the archives in 1961.
