The Diocese of Huanuco ( lat. : Dioecesis Huanucensis ) is in the northern Peruvian Andes situated Roman Catholic diocese based in Huanuco .

history

The Spanish colonial administration had intended to found a new diocese based in Huánuco as early as the 17th century. But the plans stalled, as did a corresponding initiative by the Congress of the Republic of Peru in 1832. Finally, an advance by President Juan Antonio Pezet to the Holy See in 1864 was successful Archdiocese of Lima established. Several times in its history it gave up parts of its territory to establish new dioceses. The Diocese of Huánuco is subordinate to the Archdiocese of Huancayo as a suffragan . The diocese includes the Huánuco region .
