St. Laurentius is the only Roman Catholic church in Löhne, in East Westphalia-Lippe , North Rhine-Westphalia . The parish belongs to the pastoral area WerreWeser in the deanery Herford-Minden of the Archdiocese of Paderborn . The Markus Chapel in the “Caritas Seniorencentrum St. Laurentius” is attached to it.
history
After many refugees came from the east after the Second World War, the Catholic community grew rapidly, so that the first church was built in 1947. Due to structural defects, it was torn down again in 1951. The current church was built in 1965/67.
In 2002 the pastoral association Löhne-Vlotho was established and Löhne thus became the seat of the pastoral association leader.
The pastoral network was replaced by the establishment of the WerreWeser pastoral room in summer 2015. Its leader is the pastor in St. Peter and Paul in Bad Oeynhausen. This is the first time that the parish of St. Laurentius has a permanently vacant pastor's position and is looked after by the pastoral workers in the WerreWeser pastoral area.
Furnishing
organ
The organ has 19 stops.
Sacrament chapel
In recent years the sacrament chapel has been renovated in order to create a new, smaller, worship room for the weekday services and thus also to save energy. It was separated from the nave by a glass wall, a new wooden altar was erected and the tabernacle was rotated.
Steeple
The approximately 30 m high church tower was renovated in 2010. A bell can be found in each of its four areas.
